It’s my first finished product run, Shady’s Sugar Shine recipe with the intent on making Panty Dropper with it as the base.I started with 40 gallons of wash, stripped in 4 runs, ending up with 5 1/2 gallons of 86 proof low wines. I added that plus 5 gallons of distilled water to my boiler to make sure I stayed above the shroud with the liquid. I’m using Jumex strawberry nectar in the thumper and the favor and smell is carrying over nicely. I think I’m headed for about 1.75 gallons of finished product if my math is right. It was a crisp 31°F this morning when I fired off, it took 2 hours for the run to start. I made a make shift still house last night that helped me, if not the run.

I’ll let you guys know how it turns out. Thanks for all the help to this point. I’m making stuff that I’m going to be proud to share with my family at the holidays and that’s thanks to you guys!Rusty”Knowledge is a paradox; the more one understands, the more one realizes the vastness of his ignorance” – Viktor (Arcane)The Horny Goat Build Thread

Congrats on your first spirit run Rusty! It’s been great seeing the progression to this point, and it kind of feels like I’ve been along for the ride.Whatever the end product turns out like, you’ll enjoy it and enjoy sharing it.I sincerely hope that the SPD has the desired effect for you, over the holidays!Make Booze, not War!

Thanks Moose! I’m glad I have this format to document the experience, talk about it and share a little with you guys. The local group around here in the know is 3 besides myself, so it’s nice to have this outlet to talk about it and also an amazing point of reference. It came out great, I pulled off 36 pints to work with. I pitched the first pint just to be safe even though it was a spirit run. It kept tasting and smelling good so I kept jarring it up. I figured I’d temper with that instead of water maybe. Jar #1 was 142 proof, jar #36 was 66 proof. I calculated something wrong, I wasn’t expecting to pull that much off the low wines I had in there. Oh well, it went great and I have a ton to work with. Since I was already set up I decided to go ahead and do a panela run tomorrow. That sets me up for a final panela strip and spirit run next weekend, which in turn gives me a couple of gallons of Panty Dropper and a couple of gallons of panela rum for my vacation in late December. Sounds like a great yield!Have a good read through the cuts information before you start tempering etc. There’s priceless info on cuts that you might not have seen yet up to this point. On the panela, I know that you use a thumper so your results will differ, but I like to add some rum wash to my spirit run for extra flavour, so maybe don’t strip it all.Make Booze, not War!

Good advice Moose. (insert OCD insomniac) I’ve read all the stuff on the parent site when I first came aboard, start to finish, but plan to reread it before the Shady’s cuts. Those will be my first finished product cuts. I had planned to keep a couple of gallons of backset from this panela run and charge the thumper with that for the last strip and spirit run. I will probably talk about it a bit more over on the panela thread.
