When to Utilize Bubble Plates
Hey Team, When do you use bubbles plates? ie; Do you complete a stripping run before the use of bubble plates on the column?

Plates are great for one run and done whiskey or rum.But I think no matter what’s being made, stripping first is always a good idea.

A lot of people run straight wash when using plates, some run a combination of wash and low wines, some run just low wines, there is no right or wrong.EDIT.All methods just give a slightly different result.It also depends a lot on how many plates are being run.

It kinda depends on how many plates we’re talking and also what’s the end product you’re looking forIf you ever find yourself being chased by a pack of wild taxidermists, do not play dead.

For flavored spirits too many plates will strip out the character and the ABV will be so high, water will be needed to temper it down to drinking strength, farther diluting the good stuff.

I run plates for flavour. Wisky from maize meal. I do strips. On 4 plus plates you will end at 90% – 92% on a one and done – yes with a cheap 1 – 100 scale alc meter. Dont worry, you will have a flavourful product after aging. Even if you run low wines. I use my bubble plates for one and done runs of bourbon. I’ve also done 1.5 runs.I’ve done one and done with as little as two plates. You have to run a little slower though.
