Got my VM still susssed now after 3 practice runs! After equilibrating at 77.7 deg it sat at 78.2 deg for 4.5 hrs and a similar time at 78.3. Output was 95%+ at 20 deg. The run took 13 hrs, however! I get speed or quality but not at the same time. Ain’t that life? Avg output 500ml/hr.Got a really good amount out as well. I had a 25ltr wash at 16.5% plus about 1.8ltr of heads and tails added and I got 5.7ltrs out. All, except the tails (70%), was at 95%. So I am pretty chuffed with that. To get the tails I opened the gate valve fully, wound up the water and increased the power from 824W to 1700W. A litre of tails then flowed freely. Now, what to do with all that lovely product?! Cheers,Lindsay.

Whats the column diameter, height, weight of packing material, and the reflux ratio you are using?Light travels faster than sound. That is why some people appear bright until you hear them speak.

MyDBear – I know! However, it is a pity we can’t share samples for critiquing. Grayson – column is SS 45″ X 2″ with Amphora structured copper packing. It took a pound plus a bit more I had left over from an earlier column. Not sure of the reflux ratio but it must be pretty high to get the abv I am now getting. I have a 3/4″ gate valve and it only is opened 1 turn so that must be a pretty small gap. The thermometer sure tells me if I am exceeding the correct take-off rate. I can’t go above about 500ml/hr if I want azeotrope purity. I sure am sold on VM though.Cheers,Lindsay.
