Any thoughts or tips or tricks, I was hoping the ghost of PS would come visit, no one called me a dump a$$ or cussed at me in my sleep. So Im going to keep trying it. every gallon of water = 1 lb sugar with 1/2 lb corn. and some malted barleymy totals were 3 qt, really clean looking, I think it has tails, i dont have anything to compare with. wish I knew a expert.ok lets here it.

The temps are kinda confusing, was this a one run and done with a potstill?First drip @ drip 192F and a pint @ 199f sounds like the hydrid wash/mash had a higher abv than 8.1%Or more likely, the “Temps are listed by bottom of boiler” were low compared to the vapor temps.Whatever the cause for the temp vs abv discrepancy. One run and done isn’t the best way. For a stripping run on 8 gallons, I’d guestimate 100ish milliliters of foreshoots.Keep stripping until oil begins to float on the lowines or a little longer. Then do a spirit run, with cuts to clean it up.

Sounds like you completed a stripping run. Do three of these, don’t throw away heads and tails, and combine the results into a spirit run. You’ll get a cleaner and larger hearts portion, one that makes cuts easier. You are basically doing a sugar and corn wash, with a small malt addition. You might check out the Tried and True section of the forum, and give a try at Uncle Jesse’s recipe there. Similar, but following the protocol for generations of sour mash really brings out flavor. Also, if you follow the procedure as listed, many forum members have experience with the protocol and can offer some opinions that are more meaningful than anything I can add with your notes above.

I am doing all of my fun hobby stuff at a weekend retreat, I started two 9 gallon wash at the same time, so I did not have any setback.I did have an early 5 gallon , where I stripped it then ran spirit style run on it, I did not like the results, I probably did that wrong, I did discover that my current control box, well with it wide open, is a little lower than with the boiler plugged directly in. I can tell by the heat on the extension cord. Maybe stripping should be with no controller. I think i will go back to the 5 gallon size charge till I get some sucess, except I really do not know what success taste like. so maybe the UJ idea will get something that works. I think for me a strip would be all in one jug past 200ml up front fast till the floaties show up at the end.

on fun thought is I have collected a gallon of feints for corn, and i have about that in rums + some other things that just need to go back for another run, hodgepodge run , only loss will be time and gain will be knowledge and maybe more things for me to enjoy.
