What are your preferred methods of pictching wine for yeast. Gor a sugar wash I just sprinkle the turbo over the wash and watch it go. Should I do the same for wine? Would it be better to get the yeast started in another container first to make sure all is well? O have had some trouble getting my strawberry wine to start fermenting.Do not speak- unless it improves on silence.

I just sprinkle it on top of the mash, and then stir after it’s sat a bit to rehydrate. I use a starter for sugar washes. I think wine is a lot easier to get started than sugar, it’s packed with nutrients.Good luck with that – as i said in another thread, strawberry is the only wine that never worked out for me.

I have been making fruit wines for many years and worked in a commercial winery for a time as well, I have access to a lot of information and methods that have been tried and tested…I asked my employer the same question once and he said if you make a starter bottle you can’t go wrong.> Prepare a starter bottle….> Mix 1 cup of orange juice (250ml / 8fl oz) with 1 tablespoon of sugar.> Bring the mixture to the boil to sterilise it, let it cool.> Put the liquid in a sterilised jar or appropiate container, add 1 teaspoon of yeast, then plug the jar with cotton wool or cover with a bit of old clean curtain and hold in place with an elastic band.> Leave in awarm place until you need it ,..I usually leave it over night.
