Final quality testing , from my blending, I will take 1oz with ice and 6oz pepsi, maybe two maybe three, during an evening, wake up next day to to work, Mostly there has been no problems, I have had a huge headache before bed, that stuff turned into feints for another day. I was 2nd run that i did a terrible job on the cuts. I might have the 1st run stealing hearts down pretty good. How many of you quality test your work ? I do not want to give a Christmas present away that provides that huge headache. I have even learned a bit about the tastes, they are subtle, and its fun. Who loves to quality test ?

Sounds like it could be a bad heads cut (kept too much heads). For me, it helped to have someone else smell the jars to determine where the heads cut should be. My daughter for instance has a really good nose and she can easily spot the heads cut. My nose is less sensitive, but it does correlate with her judgement.Technically I don’t know what you’re making, with what type of still and how you’re operating it. It’s possible to operate a still too hard/fast and smear heads much further than it should.4″ VM Build

I’ve made traditional bourbon with very wide cuts that wasn’t popskull. Might not be the cuts causing your headaches, it might be an underlying medical condition.

I don’t, not deliberately. I do keep tasting notes. The only spirits that give me headaches before bedtime are some commercial whiskeys and whiskys. Mine don’t, and even if they did, nobody would be getting a bottle until several Christmases had passed, by which time it is too good to give away and only visitors get to taste it.

Brother in laws are handy for disposing of shine that’s good, but not good enough for bragging rights.

As a new person on cuts and tasting and final testing. I had a blend of two teaspoons from 9 pint jars. Just about enough for 3 one jigger drinks with 6oz coke. I did not like the head feel , seemed like headache on the way . Next night, did same trick by removing the first jar of the previous set. Head feel after 3 drinks much better. Result was good, that blend went well and ended up in two quart jars for some additional flavoring. I think its worth mentioning that when you select from a set of say 10 pint jars, as you are taking maybe 1/2 teaspoon of spirt with 1/2 teaspoon of waters swishing it around and then spitting. Push your unfavorable jars out of the way. You might find that later you might be able to add all or part of a jar back to increase your final quantity with out hurting the taste or headache factor. It may take you a few days of playing with different variables of your jars, by stealing a little of each one to create a very small final blend for testing before pouring the entire mess in a bucket for final mix and blend. Remember you need to spit and rinse each taste. to keep the monsters out of taste buds .
